Of Disagreeable Decisions and Dire Consequences

So I was going through work images on my lappy {I really should fix up and give her a name...} and came across these pictures my hubby took of me last weekend. And for the life of me, I could not fathom how come these pictures aren’t on my blog yet. I mean, the one picture I look like a human being should be #ontheblog the minute it passes muster, right? So my “enemies”...tihehe...go know say i don dey try!

Slit of Life!!

To today’s post tho...

Coming back to Lagos on Sunday, we had this taxi pick us up from the hotel to the airport. Now, why a hotel like the one we stayed in does not have its own airport shuttle arrangement is beyond me. Chic-from-Lasgidi like me, with hubby in tow, was now subjected to getting the piece of crap on wheels that we got. Now, if you had to ask if it had air-conditioning, then i might not have described this taxi very well. I couldn’t wait to get to the airport to weigh myself; pretty sure i was gonna be 2kg lighter on account of that sauna session from the hotel to the airport! Someone shoulda told us PH cab men didn’t joke with Sunday church service!

Anyways, there i was melting away in the backseat of this cab when i sighted the airport toll gate. I’d never been happier to see one before. Really, the powers that be should think of moving PH town closer to the airport! This journey {took almost 30mins} from the pit was about to end. Anyways, i was happy not just because of the heat. Nah. During the course of the drive, we realized our cab man shoulda been one of those in church. Dunno if it was his driving skills or his very reluctant-to-serve car or both but something needed prayers! I mean, we nearly hit a stationary Prado jeep that was minding its business by the side of the road. But i digress...

Yea, the joy at sighting the toll gate. It was totally short-lived! The queue to enter that airport ehn! Oh gawd! In that scorching sun, with little or no wind, i felt the last of my make-up melt away! What could be causing this hold-up? Easy, it was taking the toll assistant forever to break down the N1000 notes that cars were giving her!

“Why wouldn’t folks have N200 notes in their wallets?” I muttered and then said to my husband, “Isn’t it common sense for people to have their toll ready before they get to the gate?” to which he replied, “Abi?”
Our turn came soon enough. First the cab man asked how much. Fair enough. You gotta know how much these things cost, right? After he got his answer, you woulda thought he’ll just open his pigeon-hole or reach inside his pocket and bring out said naira. Nah. My guy turned to the backseat in slow-mo and reached for a small travel bag. It took him all of 10 minutes to search this bag and realise he didn’t keep any money there. Then he frisked his pocket...still no money. At this point, the toll attendant was getting really impatient. So were the cars behind us. What else would the horn-symphony mean? Our cab was instructed to clear on the side! I was beyond astonished! Didn’t we just finish talking about this? We were parked for about 5 minutes before he found N200 in his pigeon hole!!! Halleluiah!!!! Oya, gaan and pay na. Oga looked behind, saw no one coming or paying him any attention and took off!

The hubby chuckled and told him, “This will cost N25,000 or more. You should’ve just gotten down and given them the toll”. Cab man replied with a grunt. The hubby shrugged. Me, i was just happy we were on our way to redemption! One way or the other, Karma was gonna get him on this!
Karma got him immediately! Just as he stopped to off-load us, a police van double-crossed the cab in front. Three MOPOL men spilled out and made a beeline for our cab man. We stood on the sidelines and watched them cart him and his poor car away. This was gonna cost him! He would just paid the N200!

The end.
Moral of the story? Comment it!

XOXO...
